Edmondo Botti, son and nephew respectively to co-trainers Giuseppe and Alduino Botti, has been champion jockey in Italy on three occasions. He has ridden pretty smart horses of late, most recently his CXHK Mile mount, the Gr.1 and multiple Pattern winner, Ramonti, and last year he won a Gr.1 on subsequent Dubai World Cup winner, Electrocutionist. He also won a Gr.3 in Italy this term on Exhibit One.


Bowman, Hugh

Born July 14, 1980, Hugh Bowman is a former Champion Apprentice in Sydney. He has won six Gr.1 races to date from a total of over 750 successes ¡V the highlights have arrived on CXHK Sprint hopeful Red Oog in the Doomben 10,000 and the T J Smith. Others major wins have been in the Magic Millions and the Golden Rose (twice).

Neil Callan, born July 6, 1978, has progressed into one of most prolific and hard working riders in Britain ¡V he has broken the century mark in each of the past three seasons and averages more than 1000 rides a year, many of them on the all-weather tracks. The majority of his winners stem from the stable of Kevin Ryan who also provided his breakthrough Gr.1 wins on Amadeus Wolf and Palace Episode last year.

Felix Coetzee, born March 7, 1959, is a former champion jockey in South Africa. Has ridden more than 550 winners in 14 HK seasons and enjoyed a phenomenal big race run in recent seasons, thanks chiefly to the likes of Silent Witness, the source of nine top-level victories, and Lucky Owners, winner of the Hong Kong Mile and Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby. Coetzee is no longer the retained rider for the Tony Cruz stable but is still very much in demand in HK.

Anthony Delpech, born February 10, 1969 in the Seychelles, moved to Durban, South Africa, aged 13. He was South Africa's champion rider in 2002/03 and in 1998/99 when he bagged a record haul of 333 winners. Twice won South Africa's most prestigious event, the Durban July. Ridden over 100 wins in HK, the most important coming on Vengeance Of Rain in the MBHK Derby, AP QEII Cup, Champions & Chater Cup and CX Hong Kong Cup.

Frankie Dettori, born December 15, 1970, in Italy. He was Champion British Apprentice in 1989 and added three Champion Jockey titles, most recently in 2004 year after a ten-year gap. Has won around 150 Gr.1 races worldwide, with the Epsom Derby still elusive and the one he most wants. Famously rode all seven winners at Ascot in September 1996. His record in HK is also excellent: won the Hong Kong Cup in 2000 and 2003 on Fantastic Light and Falbrav, the 2004 CXHK Mile on Firebreak, the 1996 Vase and QEII Cup on Luso and Overbury. Recently won the Breeders' Cup Turf and Filly/Mare on Red Rocks and Vase mount, Ouija Board.


Doleuze, Olivier

Olivier Doleuze, born 19 April 1972, was the Champion Apprentice of France in 1989 under the tutelage of Criquette Head-Maarek for whom he later served as retained rider, enjoying considerable success most notably with French Classic winners, Green Tune and Egyptband. Famed for his flamboyant celebrations, Doleuze has also ridden with success in Singapore where a 2001 Singapore Krisflyer Sprint win on Iron Mask stands out. Doleuze was a huge hit in his first Hong Kong stint in 2001/02 and is closing in on the 200-winner mark.


Ford, Jay

Born November 24, 1983, Jay Ford has won around 300 career races so far and is a former champion apprentice in Sydney. He has won two Gr.1 races on Hotel Grand at home but he has earned worldwide notoriety for his deeds on Takeover Target, winning four Gr.1 races, three in Australia and one in Japan. He also won the King's Stand Stakes (Gr.2) at Royal Ascot.


Heffernan, Seamus

Seamus Heffernan, born July 17, 1972, has served as understudy to the first choice jockeys such as Mick Kinane, Jamie Spencer and Kieren Fallon at the very powerful Ballydoyle stable of Aidan O'Brien. He has won three Gr.1 races, including the Irish 1000 Guineas on Imagine and the National Stakes on Beckett. He has also been placed in each of the five Classics in Ireland and this year won 33 races in his homeland. This will be his first ride in Hong Kong.


Hills, Richard

Son of top trainer Barry and twin of equally successful Michael, Richard Hills was born January 22, 1963. Rode his first winner in 1979 and has been riding for top owner Hamdan Al Maktoum as far back as 1982 (retained since 1997 after Willie Carson retired). Won the Dubai World Cup in 1999 on Almutawakel and over 80 Group races overall, over 20 of those at Gr.1 level. Highlight wins have come on Nayef (two Gr.1s), Haafhd (2000 Guineas), Lahan (1000 Guineas) and last year on Eswarah (Epsom Oaks). He has partnered over 1600 winners in Europe.


Ikezoe, Kenichi

Kenichi Ikezoe, 27, had won 462 JRA races - 41 arriving this year ¡V by November 20. His first big race win was in 2002 on Arrow Carry in the Japanese 1000 Guineas. He is best remembered for his partnership with excellent sprinter-miler Durandal, winner of the 2003 Sprinters Stakes and the Mile Championship in 2003 and 2004. He finished 5th on odds-on Durandal in the CXHK Mile in 2004. He also had a fine record on the filly, Sweep Tosho, winning three Gr.1s.

Mick Kinane, born June 22, 1959, has over 120 Gr.1 winners to his name including two Prix de l'Arc de Triomphes (Carroll House, Montjeu), four King Georges, the Belmont Stakes (Go And Go), Breeders' Cups (Johannesburg and High Chaparral (twice)), the Melbourne Cup (Vintage Crop), two Hong Kong Derbies (Sound Print, Che Sara Sara) and a Hong Kong Cup (Precision) in 2002. Won his 13th Irish jockeys' title in 2003. Made his first visit to Hong Kong in 1986/87 and has since ridden over 160 winners here. Has been retained by Dermot Weld and Aidan O'Brien in Ireland but now rides for John Oxx.


Lemaire, Christophe

Christophe Lemaire, born May 20, 1979, is the son of a jockey. He began as an amateur aged 16 and turned pro at 19. First Gr.1 came in 2003 on Vespone in the Prix Jean Prat. Rode the brilliant filly Divine Proportions in all of her ten starts, winning nine times, including five Gr.1s. Also enjoyed notable success on Starcraft in Europe (Prix du Moulin, QEII Stakes) and Heart's Cry in Japan (Arima Kinen and Dubai Sheema Classic).

Kevin Manning, born March 3, 1967, has long been stable jockey to top Irish trainer Jim Bolger. Won the 1994 Gr.1 Phoenix Stakes on Eva Luna and Margarula to take the Gr.1 Irish Oaks in 2002 but his real heroine has been Alexander Goldrun on whom he won the 2004 CXHK Cup as well as four other Gr.1s in Europe. Looks set for an exciting year in 2007 with leading juveniles Gr.1 winning Classic hopefuls Teofilo and Finsceal Beo.


McDonogh, Declan

The son of Dessie, a successful trainer who won the Champion Hurdle, 26-year-old Declan McDonogh has just lifted his first Champion Jockey crown in Ireland. Won his first race aged 15 and a year later picked up his first race for the Kevin Prendergast stable for which he is the principal jockey. A Gr.1 win aboard star mare Rebelline propelled him into the major league in 2002 and this year his biggest earner was Miss Beatrix, winner of the Gr.1 Moyglare Stakes and Goffs Million, the richest 2yo event in Europe.


McKeown, Dean

Dean McKeown, born February 5, 1960, rode his first winner aged 17 and has since been a stalwart of the racing scene in north of England. Alan Swinbank, trainer of his mount Collier Hill, has been his best supporter of recent years and Collier Hill has won him the Irish St Leger and Canadian International. He has had Royal Ascot glory, won several major handicaps and rode 50 winners in Britain this year.

Gerald Mosse, born Jan 3, 1968, is a former Champion Apprentice in France and has ridden over 40 Gr.1 wins in Europe. Career highlight remains his Arc triumph on Saumarez in 1990; he has also won all the French Classics. Is in his 14th season riding in Hong Kong and is closing in on the 400 winner mark, including three Hong Kong Derbies. His biggest money-spinner was Jim And Tonic, on whom he won the Hong Kong Bowl, Hong Kong Cup and AP QEII Cup. He also won the Hong Kong Sprint in 2002 on All Thrills Too.


Mundry, Torsten

Torsten Mundry, born March 12, 1971, has ridden well over 1000 winners in Europe, and is best known in Germany for his association in 1996 with Lavirco, winner of the German 2000 Guineas, Derby and Europa-Preis. He also won over 30 other Group races. He rode with success in Macau before switching for Hong Kong for the majority of the 2003/04 and the first part of 2004/05. All up, he partnered 18 victors in HK, chiefly Figures in the Champions Mile in 2004.


Nikolic, Daniel

Daniel Nikolic, born November 19, 1974, is in his second stint in Hong Kong and is beginning to churn out the winners after a slow start. He has been associated with some of the smartest Australian horses of recent years, winning on Redoute's Choice (Blue Diamond Stakes), Belle Du Jour (Newmarket Handicap), Mummify (5 Gr.1s, including the Caulfield Cup and Singapore International Cup). He has ridden well over 1000 winners and has twice been the leading rider at VRC Spring Carnival at Flemington.

Manoel Nunes da Silva, born November 12, 1975, is from Brazil where he won five Gr.1 races. He successfully moved to Macau to land the 2005 Macau Derby on Doppio, the same year he also won Macau Jockeys' Championship, which he won again last year. He also won the Macau Hong Kong Trophy on outsider Redwood Falls. Has started his Hong Kong career very brightly with Able Prince's win in the CX International Sprint Trial the highlight.

Born June 12, 1967, in Peru where he was the leading jockey, aged 17. Moved to America aged 19 and has been hugely successful. Three times the leading jockey in the USA, Prado rode 536 winners in 1997, becoming only the fourth jockey to ride over 500 winners in a season. Registered his 5,000th career in 2004. Won the Belmont Stakes in 2002 and 2004 on Sarava and Birdstone. Easily won the Kentucky Derby this year on Barbaro. Currently based in New York.

Brett Prebble, born September 23, 1977, is a former Champion Apprentice and twice Champion Jockey in Melbourne. His HK breakthrough came aboard Precision in the Champions & Chater Cup in 2003 and in 2005 he added the Australia Stakes on Cape Of Good Hope. Ridden over 120 winners in HK (clear second in the table last term on 63 wins) and has struck up a good relationship with trainer Tony Cruz, winning the Champions Mile and Yasuda Kinen on Bullish Luck, the reigning Horse of the Year; also won the CX International Cup Trial on Hello Pretty.

Eric Saint-Martin, born August 31, 1965, in his 13th season as a Club Jockey in Hong Kong, riding over 350 winners - best season was 49 wins in 1998/99. Wins on Oriental Express and Olympic Express in the 1999 Champions & Chater Cup and 2003 HK Gold Cup in 2003 are among his local high points. Undoubted career highlight, however, came with Urban Sea's victory in the 1993 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He is the son of Yves Saint-Martin, one of the greatest riders in French racing history.

Glyn Schofield, born in England on January 25 1967 - but raised in South Africa ¡V did very well in four full Hong Kong seasons, riding over 150 winners. Clear highlights were his long-priced successes on River Dancer in the 2004 AP QEII Cup and a similarly outside win on Natural Blitz in the CXHK Sprint last season. Has won plenty of races in South Africa (including the South African Derby), and many more in Mauritius, Australia and Singapore.

Christophe Soumillon, born June 4 1981 in Belgium. Rode his first winner at 17 and Champion Apprentice at 19. Won the French Derby in 2001 and was later retained by the Aga Khan for whom he won the French Derby and Prix de l'Arc on Dalakhani in 2003. Three times Champion Jockey in France, setting a new record of 226 wins last year. Won the 2005 Breeders' Cup Turf on Shirocco and the King George this term on Hurricane Run. Notable success in HK also, sharing the Cathay Pacific International Jockeys' Championship in 2004 and voted Most Popular Jockey last season by local fans. Five Gr.1s in HK, principally the MBHK Derby last term on Viva Pataca.


Spencer, Jamie

Jamie Spencer, born June 8, 1980, burst onto the scene by winning the Irish 1000 Guineas in 1998 as an apprentice. Won his first British Classic in 2003, the St Leger. Was Ireland's Champion Jockey in 2004 while stable jockey to Aidan O'Brien, but broke the association early in 2005 to ride freelance in Britain where he later lifted the Jockeys' championship. Finished in second place this season to Ryan Moore when highlight wins included the Dubai Duty Free and the Eclipse on David Junior. Rode nine HK winners in two Club Jockey stints.

Koshiro Take, 28, is the younger brother of multiple champion jockey, Yutaka. He had won 481 JRA races - 51 this year ¡V by November 20. Has won three Gr.1 races: the Shuka Sho on Tico Tico Tac, the 2003 NHK Mile Cup on Win Kluger and this year's Kikuka Sho (Japanese St Leger) on Song of Wind, his CXHK Vase mount.

Yutaka Take, born March 15, 1969, rode his first winner in 1987 and was Japan's champion apprentice the same year. Has since been champion jockey in Japan 16 times and has won practically everything from well over 2500 career wins. Last year he landed the Triple Crown on Deep Impact, the horse that recently won him a second Japan Cup. Has also enjoyed successful spells in France and America. Won the Hong Kong Vase on Stay Gold in 2001 and shared the Cathay Pacific International Jockeys' Title in 2004.

Ronan Thomas is retained by Criquette head-Maarek's prominent French stable, occupying a position vacated by HK-based Olivier Doleuze. His first Group winner came aboard Loving Pride for Head-Maarek four years ago. This year he finished 15th in the French jockeys' table with 47 winners.

Douglas Whyte, born November 15 1971, in Durban, South Africa, has been champion jockey in Hong Kong for the last six seasons and is long odds-on for another crown this term. Has partnered over 850 winners in HK and his monstrous tally of 114 last term broke his own record. Has lifted local Gr.1 events such as the Hong Kong Gold Cup and Hong Kong Vase (Indigenous); Audemars Piguet QEII Cup (London News), Chairman's Prize (Oriental Express); Centenary Cup (Best Of The Best).

Craig Williams, born May 23, 1977, was around the second tier of Australian jockeys when he left for Europe and impressed by winning Gr.1 races in France and Britain. He furthered his education in Hong Kong, riding 109 winners across three full seasons and two shorter stints. But, returned to Australia and riding for the David Hayes stable, he has flourished winning the Melbourne jockeys' premiership last year (leads again this term). Fields Of Omagh's Cox Plate and Miss Finland's trio of Golden Slipper, 1000 Guineas and Oaks glory have been his highlights back home.

Yuichi Fukunaga, 30, is famous in Hong Kong for his association with Eishin Preston, winner of the Hong Kong Mile in 2001 and the APQEII Cup in 2002 and 2003. By November 20 this year, he had ridden 83 winners, taking his career tally to 835 wins in the JRA. He won five Gr.1s last year but just one in 2006 on Fusaichi Pandora.
